(girl) Answer: There are different options for joining W-WEST, you can sign up to receive our newsletter, which is currently emailed out every 2 months. You can add W-WEST as a friend on Facebook and you can follow us on Twitter. When you add us as a friend on Facebook, you will be able to follow our updates and see what W-WEST are doing and when and you will receive invites to any events W-WEST are involved in. You can also come along to a W-WEST meeting (these are held every 4 weeks on a Thursday night). If you would like to come along to a W-WEST meeting, you can send an email and we will let you know when the next one is taking place. Once you have been to a meeting, you can then decide if you would like to become a W-WEST management group member and be involved in planning the work of W-WEST. Question: Are there any pro's to smoking? (boy, aged 16) Answer: Although smoking can appear to be a cool and grown up thing to do, there are many health warnings about smoking that far outweigh any perceived pro's. Check out our facts page for things you should know about smoking. Question: Why did you choose to do the Plain Truth Campaign? (girl, aged 13) Answer: W-WEST chose the Plain Truth Campaign because we felt that it was important for young people to know the truth about the advertising tactics used by tobacco companies to encourage young people to buy their brands and start smoking. We think that young people have a right to choose without being encouraged by fancy packaging and design. Question: Do you really think plain packaging will make a difference? (girl, aged 15) Answer: W-WEST carried out a Youth Tobacco Packaging Survey as part of our Plain Truth Campaign which was filled in by nearly 1000 young people in order to investigate. We found that plain packaging does make a difference, as young people were less attracted to a plain brown cardboard box that didn't have a fancy way of opening. |
