W-WEST challenge you to investigate The Plain Truth! The Plain Truth Campaign is all about talking about the case for the plain packaging of cigarettes and tobacco products. If the tobacco industry is to keep making money, it must continue recruiting replacements for the 100 000 people who die as a result of smoking in the UK every year. Most of these new smokers are children and young people - in fact two thirds of regular smokers start smoking before the age of 18, while two fifths start before the age of 16. In order to make sure people want to buy their products, tobacco companies spend a lot of money creating a cool image for them. But we are fighting back and supporting the campaign for plain packaging which would outlaw the use of logos, colours and graphics on packs of cigarettes. Research by the health campaigning charity ASH has revealed that young people find plain packaging much less attractive than cigarette packs currently on sale. We believe that young people shouldn't be influenced into buying a harmful product just because the packaging looks cool. But what do you think? Click on the link below to fill in our survey |
